Register today for the Forest of Reading®!

Celebrate Canadian books, authors and illustrators by registering for a Forest of Reading® program!

The Pembroke Public Library is excited to announce that we are, again, participating in the Forest of Reading® program during 2017.

We encourage all children to register for the program by signing up at the library. There are four programs to sign up for based on grades and interests.

  • The Blue Spruce Award is for children in Senior Kindergarten to Grade 2 (ages 4-7); and includes a variety of easy picture books to read.
  • The Silver Birch Award is for children in Grades 3-6; and contains a variety of books sorted into three separate categories: express, fiction and non-fiction.

Children who are registered are invited to read from a list of ten Canadian titles nominated in the category that corresponds with their age. Please note that readers must read a minimum of five books in order to be eligible to vote. Participants are welcome to read with a friend or adult if they are not yet comfortable reading on their own

At the end of April, all readers vote for their favourite book. All Forest of Reading® participants will have a vote on the winner of The 2017 Blue Spruce Award, and The 2017 Silver Birch Awards. Based on votes cast across the province, the best book is announced and the author is honoured with an award at the Festival of Trees in Toronto on May 16-17, 2017.

Additional information can be found on the Forest of Reading® website.

We look forward to reading with you!
